Ways how you can check your PF Balance Online

If you are an employee of any organization and eligible for the provident fund by your employer then this post must interest you. Here we'll check how you can check your PF balance online.

EPFO (Employees Provident Fund Organisation) provides option to check you PF balance online this can be done by just entering your PF account details and you'll be served with the updated balance of your PF account instantly.  This facility is available on all leading PF offices of India.

EPF consist of following two contributions

  • Employee Contribution – 12% of your Basic

  • Employer Contribution – 12% of your Basic ( Out of this 8.33% goes into EPS upto Rs 541 per month)

the third part is the Interest on both the contribution which id decided time to time by the government of India.

Steps to check your PF account balance online




  1. Get you PF account Number in Revised format


To get your PF balance you need to know your PF account number. You can contact your HR department for the sam or check your payslip.

Structure looks like

  1. Enter your details to check the PF balance

    1. Go to EPFO Website  http://epfindia.com/site_en/KYEPFB.php

      1. Select your “State”

      2. Select your EPFO Office code – (This you can see in you PF account number)

      3. Enter your PF Account details

System will pre-filled first two boxes based on your selection of state & PF office

Now enter information into















3rd Box
Establishment code ( Max 7 digits) – PF Code of your employer

 4th box
Extension (Max 3 characters) – Leave blank if no extension code

 5th box
Your PF Account number (max 7 digits)




For e.g if your PF number in salary slip is MH/9876543/1234567 then your establishment code is 9876543 and your account number is 1234567.  

After filling the EPF account details now you need to enter your Name as per your pay slip & working mobile number which is registered with the EPF account.

Once you submit the form you will receive SMS from EPFO in a few minutes.

The format of the SMS will be

Balance is updated till the date mentioned in the SMS so you may fill the balance is not as per expectations. Thus you'll find two balances in the received SMS viz.

  • EE – Employee Balance

  • ER – Employer Balance
